to video or not to video

  • Easter morning, I opted not to take my video camera to church b/c I have this great new phone w/all the bells & whistles on it.
  • I go up to the balcony to video my daughter dancing. I can't get the video to work---how hard can it be??? tell it to video & click. right. Simple.
  • Not so simple...I tell it to video. Good. I click. Good. Except the counter is not counting. I am not videoing! I pretend that I am videoing, but really I'm just holding the camera.
  • When the dance is over, I go back to my seat. I can't get video to work, my daughter can't get it to work, my sisNlaw can't get the video to work. Maybe my phone doesn't do video?!!! What?!
  • Fastforward to a few days ago. I find the quick start book that came with my phone. I read about making videos. it says: slide to video, click. So Simple.
  • Friday, I'm in the kitchen making breakfast & decide to try the video on my phone again. I know it won't work, but why not.
  • OH now you decide to work!!! Now I can use the video on my phone!
  • what changed?? I read the directions!! HUH??

Apple Chips, any1?!

  • Today, I decided I wanted apple chips. My brother @MildMannerdMe made some at Christmas, but because the apples had too much wax on them--he said they weren't his best.
  • Those waxy apples are long gone! I used red delicious. Actually, before I even started, I asked my brother about his recipe. He said, "google it" & I did. Found a really simple recipe with 2 ingredients: apples & lemon juice.
  • Since all the recipes say to slice thinly, I decided I wanted something that would give me uniform slices. I found a mandolin at our "Mall of Manning" (Wal-Mart).
  • Came home, washed everything: mandolin & apples.
  • Preheated oven to 250. Put the lemon juice in a bowl & added some nutmeg. Slice my apples (using the "thin" blade) over the bowl & occasionly tossed apples & mixture to make sure my apples wouldn't turn brown. Laid the apples on a cookie sheet (should of sprayed it) & baked for 30min. Checked on them at 10min or so. (recipe says 1hr, but I knew better)
  • The "thin" blade was too thin...my apples did crisp, but mostly burned because of the thinness. Most of the 1st batch went into the trash--learning curve.
  • Tried another apple with the medium blade. This worked much better, although still thin. At least you can't read through these. This batch WILL be eaten tomorrow.
  • This is a great sweet treat with NO sugar added!!

You are looking at the remnants of my 3rd Garmin FR60w…each broke in the same place…can you say design flaw??

Yes, I said 3rd! I sent it back Thursday afternoon & hopefully will receive my new “upgraded FR70w” watch by the middle of next week.

Let’s hope the design flaw has been addressed in the new watch…only time will tell!

week 8 (the 12th wk)

  • here it is. I've already completed 11wks of training...of these 11wks, I've only met my goal mileage 3 different times. the fewest miles I've run in any wk was 5. but at least I did run that week. the most mileage I've run in any wk was 14.76 & still missed my goal of 16mi, but I ran!
  • this week, I was looking at another plan that has me close to 25mi/wk. it is doable, but don't know if I will do it. so, I'm back to look'g at the original training plan w/fewer miles.
  • day 78: I ran 2.17mi...@ Dillon Park in Sumter. beautiful day, nice & warm. I didn't even need sleeves!
  • day 79: stretch/cross train. dance class w/Mrs. Andrea...love the stretching--one of the reasons I'm still in that class...choreography has me confused at times, but love being with the ladies.
  • day 80: I ran 4.09mi of intervals. 1min fast/3min normal or slow pace. the thing about intervals is, after a 1min sprint--normal pace seems slow, so you end up running faster than you would have had you just done a normal run the whole time.
  • day 81: fooling with Sunny...got no mileage in...
  • didn't see my shadow--6 more wks of mild winter, I say...just like the 1st 6wks or so

Sunny w/a Chance....

  • Last week, I took Sunny the Sunfire in to the shop. She was having a hard time starting...she would start, but didn't really want to. Her engine light would come on intermittently. Garage guy said that she needed a starter sensor. OK. Do what you need to do...I need Sunny to get me to work & home safely everyday!!
  • This week, Sunny starts like she's supposed to. As the week goes on she doesn't want to start again & her engine light is back on. OK, no prob. Sunny was getting a newer compressor for the AC on Friday. As I am at work Thursday, I'm wondering if I'm gonna make it home at all. Scratch through my after 12 plans & go straight home.
  • I clean out work stuff, so the garage guy can work on Sunny & I can still get my Friday work done. Only thing is, Sunny is done!! She will not start. She will not play like she's gonna start. She will not turn over. She just won't do!
  • Sunny has a new battery. Everything that is supposed to work when the battery works, is working. So I call my insurance company. They will tow Sunny to the garage/shop. I call the garage guy & tell him what happened. He remembers his guys putting in a new sensor.
  • Sunny finally gets a diagnosis: she needs a new starter!! Really...I think I figured that out myself.

wk 3b (week 6)

  • Day 36: Monday: ran 4.18mi in the afternoon...kinda warm out. Love living in the south!!
  • Day 37: Tuesday: schedule says stretch...did some stretching, but did more traveling
  • Day 38: Wednesday: schedule says 2mi...ran 2.36mi on hills with my sister @dorethawalker @ my parents house. Parents live at the bottom of a hill, so ya gonna tackle a few hills just leaving their house
  • Day 39: Thursday: schedule says 3.5mi, but I'm nursing a sinus cold....no running for me
  • Day 40: Friday: schedule says rest, but I rested y'day....ran 2.3mi up the hills again, with @dorethawalker!!
  • Day 41: Saturday: Christmas Eve...not at home, not at parents'...no running today
  • Day 42: Sunday: Christmas Day...again no running today!
  • 2 days of rest...tomorrow will be interesting!!
  • My total for the week was 8.84mi...not bad for traveling & getting sick.
  • Tomorrow starts a brand new week...got more traveling in there!! stay tuned....

wk 3 (week 5)

  • Day 29: Monday: schedule says run 3.5mi...didn't really look at the schedule until after I ran 4.04mi. Yay me! This was 2-1mi jaunts around the track @ the Dillion Park, then 2more 1mi jaunts around the track @ the Y...my @Garmin wasn't cooperating with me.
  • Day 30: Tuesday: schedule says stretch...(I stretched my tight muscles)
  • Day 31: Wednesday: schedule says run, I rested. Company coming in...& long day @ work, so I took it easy.
  • Day 32: Thursday: schedule says run 3.5mi...I ran 4.25mi @ Sumter Y. again my @garmin didn't want to cooperate & give me all the feedback I wanted...finally got it to work. (thinking @garmin may be ask'g for new battery)
  • Day 33: Friday: Rest day...I rested.
  • Day 34: Saturday: schedule say 40min of something...I ran 2.16mi (much less than the 40min, but much needed mileage)...
  • Day 35: Sunday: schedule says 5mi...I rested
  • that gives me a total of 10.45mi for the week...not the 14mi on the schedule, but I did get mileage in even with company at the house.
  • next week should be interesting with no work, travel & Christmas
  • stay tuned.....

wk 2b (week 4)

  • day 24: Wednesday: schedule says run 2mi or do cross training. I actually did not do any of that...I rested.
  • day 25: Thursday: schedule says run 3+miles...I did that!! I ran 3.06mi @ McLeod Health & Fitness outdoor track in Florence, SC. Then, later, I ran 2.07 @ Sumter YMCA.
  • All Day 25 was to break in my new shoes!! Not sure if I like them, even though they are the same style, brand as my previous 3pair of running shoes. But I guess that's part of breaking them in---don't want blisters
  • Day 26: Friday: schedule says REST day...I did exactly that...rested.
  • Day 27: Saturday: schedule says 30min of cross, but I rested again...I was away from home for about 9hrs, so when I got home, running was on my mind, but not physically or mentally capable of going out the door.
  • Day 28: Sunday: schedule says 4mi run. didn't get the whole 4 in, but I did run 2.97mi. (think it was really more).
  • I have run a total of 12.15mi this week and more than 40mi since I started training for this 1/2 marathon.
  • next week we are to up the mileage by 1/2mi on the shorter runs & full mi on the longer runs. not sure how this will work with a dance program coming up at the end of the week & practice most everyday...
  • stay tuned.....
